It aims “to combine the principle of freedom in the market place (subject to legal regulations that exclude, for example, cartelisation in the markets for goods and services) by raising consumer opportunities, motivating providers to achieve innovations and technical progress, and distributing income and profit according to individual achievement.”[FN 2]
[FN 2: Müller-Armack (1956), p. 243.] |
This was fundamentally supposed to enable the free play of forces on the market by raising consumer opportunities, motivating providers to achieve innovations and technical progress, and distributing income and profit according to individual achievement. |
Very strange, indeed. Although marked as a citation nothing really "fits": the source is supposed to be German, but there exists a different (electronic) source in English which is about "Social Market Economy", is not cited here but still contains the exact same wording. The page-number given does not fit with the page-numbers given in the bibliography (and does not point at the lemma "Soziale Marktwirtschaft" in the "Handwörterbuch der Sozialwissenschaften"). What has happened here? |

Germany has tried to realise these objectives in the past by hedging against risks incurred from unemployment, disability or a person’s inability to work in his/her chosen profession, accident, illness, age and other social conditions. A special characteristic of the German system is the cooperation of employers and employees, which is expressed in the equal financing of contributions to pensions, medical and long-term care and unemployment insurance. Another form of consensus is the social partnership of unions and employer associations, which is subject to the institutionalised settlement of conflicts as outlined in the collective labour law. Article 9 of the German Basic Law guarantees autonomy in negotiating wages, i.e., the right of employees and employers to bear the responsibility themselves for deciding on working conditions in contracts resulting from collective bargaining. The law covering collective bargaining and the Industrial Democracy Act, both of which were influenced in their wording by industry and the trade unions, play a considerable role in determining work regulations. | Over a long period, a social system has emerged in Germany which internationally is considered exemplary - it hedges against risks incurred from unemployment, disability or a person’s inability to work in his/her chosen profession, accident, illness, age and other social conditions. This sentence has been used before in this thesis [Fragment 101 08]. Neither there (where it forms part of a larger piece of copied text) nor here a reference to the source is given. As [Fragment 101 08] is unambiguously copied from the source, this shorter fragment here "inherits" this unambiguity. This is the final chapter "7. Conclusions and Outlook": the author seems to summarize her findings by copying parts of previous chapters -- in this case she copied plagiarized text. |
