Bei einem Vergleich zwischen den Analyseformen für soziale Netzwerke führt Burt einige Gründe für die Verwendung ego-zentrierter Netzwerke an: “a) Since they are anchored on specific actors, ego-networks allow the use of standard survey research designs in gathering network data. This means that inferences can be made about the typical relations in large populations from interviews with a random sample of actors. In contrast, and with few exceptions, models in the positional approach require data on all actors in the population. b) Ego-networks explicitly call attention to the coordination of relations with different contents so as to more easily address the problem of distinguishing separate contents.
