| The first system was introduced by George et al. [Geo93, Geo93a, Ver93]. A free radical initiator, such as 2,2'-azobisisobutyrolnitrile (AIBN) or benzoyl peroxide (BPO) is used in conjunction with TEMPO. The second system is a "unimolecular system", in which alkoxyamine dissociates to produce both the initiating radical and the mediating nitroxide radical [Haw96, Haw96a, Tsa02].

The first class, as introduced by George et al., is a “bimolecular system”, in which a conventional free radical initiator, such as 2,2’-azobisisobutyrolnitrile (AIBN) or benzoyl peroxide (BPO) is used in conjunction with TEMPO.10, 47, 59 The second class is a “unimolecular system”, in which alkoxyamine dissociate to produce both the initiating radical and the mediating nitroxide radical.13, 54, 60
