GT-Studien sind aufgrund ihrer steten Verbundenheit zum Analyseobjekt mehr als konzeptionelle Beschreibungen und Interpretationen von Phänomenen und der zugrunde liegenden Ursache- und Wirkzusammenhänge. Eine GT hat den Anspruch, gegenüber den Menschen, welche in dem Gegenstandbereich arbeiten, verständlich zu sein (Glaser und Strauss 1967, S. 239). Darüber hinaus sollen auch Maßnahmen ableitbar sein, um auf das Phänomen einzuwirken und eine Verbesserung der eigenen Situation herbeizuführen (Glaser und Strauss 1967, S. 247; Strauss und Corbin 1990, S. 242 f.; Dey 1999, S. 28).
